About This Blog

This is the part of the blog where I tell you about myself and my photography. My name is Rachel Russo and I live in San Angelo, Texas...okay, enough about me.
My sessions are designed to be FUN and very relaxed. With some encouragement and direction, all sessions are allowed to unfold naturally, making each and every one unique and true to the subjects.
All sessions take place on-location. You may choose a location or I will be happy to make some recommendations. I recommend selecting a place where you/your child feel comfortable and free to be yourselves.

30 Day Cleanse

Did you know when you pray for something, God really does answer?….funny how that actually works;) For the past month, I have been very convicted about my lack of discipline both physically and spiritually. I have definitely been relating to Paul’s struggle in Romans 7: 15-18 “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do……For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.”

I have really felt this way when it comes to my desire to live a healthy lifestyle, yet on a day to day basis, I keep making terrible choices that affect my physical body. I have a strong desire to do the right things (get to the gym, eat balanced meals and say no to treats and fast food), yet I continued to do the same things I always have. I really get disgusted with myself because I know my lack of discipline is not confined to my eating habits….I have not been disciplined in my spiritual life either.

Oaky all of that to say, I have decided to make some drastic changes that I know will not be easy. I am starting with a 30 Day Cleanse. When I mentioned the Lord answering prayer, I was talking about this post I read on Kelly Moore’s blog yesterday. It was just what I needed to get my butt in gear. I am joining Kelly in her Cleanse and I would love it if you (anyone interested) would join me!

I went by GNC last night and CleanseSmart (30-Day Cleanse) costs $31.99. I plan to begin on Tuesday, Sept 8th (right after Labor Day). Below are some of the Do’s and Don’t that I have read are important….

DON’T
*Eat processed foods (pretty much all fast food)
*Eat sugar, gluten or refined grains, artificial sweeteners or trans fats

DO
*Eat right and reduce red meat consumption
*Exercise to the point of sweating and to keep blood and lymph circulating well
*Get enough rest
*Keep your skin clean (which means I have to shower every day?!?!?!?!?!)

Diet Suggestions:
* Fresh Fruit and Veggies
* Fish* Free-range or organic chicken and turkey
* Eggs
* Well-cooked grains: millet, buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa, spelt and teff.
* Pasta made from the above grains
* Essential fatty acids: flax oil, fish oil, borage oil
*Raw almonds and seeds, raw almond butter
* I’m also going to add plain yogurt, honey, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, whole grain brown rice & shrimp.

In this process of ‘denying’ my physical body’s desires….I plan to get very serious about my time with the Lord. I have not been consistent in setting aside one-on-one time with him in the past months and that is going to change. So as I cleanse my body of the toxins I have allowed to creep in, I also want to cleanse my mind and heart of all of the things that are not from the Lord…the things that I have unknowingly allowed to consume me.

****Even if you are not interested in participating in the Cleanse...please keep me in your prayers. I know I will need them:)

that is awesome. I have been so busy with the wedding that I haven't been watching what I am eating or exercising. You are encouraging me to get back into it. Thanks for the post. Keep it up. It is well worth it in the end. I have done somehting kind of like that. It is hard at first but once your body adjust, you find that you have much more energy and you can sleep better too.

I would love to do this with you, but I am going to be on my honeymoon. Sorry.

See ya tomorrow!

Way to go Russo, that sounds like a good challenge. I like the idea that it is only for thirty days, long enough to start a habit, but not so long that it becomes overwhelming. I hope that you will benefit from it both physically and spiritually, I will be praying for you.
